The info you found on Ancestry is correct...................the woman’s ACTUAL maiden name was MILLS.

The birth certificate to which you refer is not specifically Welsh - it will be a ‘short’ one, which was cheaper.

Thanks so much everybody for giving this a good going over - nameless one - apologies - I missed your message - the Welsh Birth Certificate that i've seen (yes, it turns out there was one lurking around although the good Lady didn't think she had it at first) does not even disclose parents names. The additional marriage, thanks for pointing it out, will need to be kept an eye on too.

I have ordered the Rose Adams and William Matthews marriage certificate for confirmation of parents - 1900 - QTR: Dec, District: Bedwellty, Vol: 11a, Page 124. Hope this meets with everybody's approval as a strategy moving forward towards confirmation of the family structure but I have every reason to believe that all of the information everyone has provided is spot on and I am so grateful for it - once certs are uploaded, it should help to provide confirmation to other Ancestry Member's and to get trees updated.

Ok, I've been able to establish that the birth date is definitely 30 September 1926, "he had a brother called Wilf. His Mum died when he was 2. They lived at 17 Portland Street, Abertillary. His brother lived in the same street. Wilf went on to marry a Lady called Iris.

Always take other people trees either a pinch of salt. Get Raymond’s birth certificate to prove the mothers name/ names.

William Matthews on that 1939 record is a widower, and only he and Raymond are in that household. Look at it yourself, beanie, for confirmation

Hi Erika,

I'm not convinced that the date of birth is right either. I asked the source to confirm it and they said they would see what they have (if anything), since it's her Father, you'd like to think she was sure before she put the info on Ancestry but then family circumstances can be odd.

Also, it's not unheard of for someone to state their previous married name instead of their maiden name on certificates. I think the next logical step is the death cert.

If the mother had been married before, it would not have been to anyone named Adams, unless she married a man with the same surname as herself. Her maiden name is a constant.
