It wasn’t the BOARD name which led to the’ confusion’

Let’s hope Helen looks at the info on here

ArgyllGran Report 31 Mar 2024 15:14

Helen has also now changed her board name , presumably to avoid further confusion.

ADDED:
And name to which messages are sent (re ErikaH's post below)

Helen explains on the other thread that she is not Lexi and doesn’t know why her sister would have used a Helen’s name on the account.

Per the 1932 marriage cert, William's parents were Andrew and Christina (nee Ormiston) who married in Newcraighall, Midlothian, in 1903.

6 credits on SP will let you see their parents' names, to go back another generation.

Andrew and family in 1911 census:

MONTGOMERY ANDREW
1911
M

695/B 1/ 6

In same household:

Christina 28, Andrew 2, William 6, James 1, Mary Jane 4

Therefore, William's birth:

MONTGOMERY WILLIAM
mmn ORMISTON

Not much use to Helen if she doesn’t have any contact with her sister. She will have to buy them herself.

ErikaH Report 31 Mar 2024 11:21

According to the earlier thread, the poster has the 1932 marriage cert, so should know names of the groom's parents

EDITED

The bride's birth mother's name is on the cert :-S :-S

Unfortunately, the mother is NOT at the birth address in 1901

Helen ................

The best piece of advice I can give to a newbie researcher is not to take any information that someone gives you or that you find on a family tree anywhere as gospel truth, not even that given on here by these excellent helpers.

Take the information as a starting point, and find proof of everything you have been told.

Work back slowly, buy as many birth, marriage and death certificates as you can afford, otherwise you are very likely to find yourself following a wrong track. We've all done it at one time or another!

Good luck in your research

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Mar 2024 20:28

Go to Scotland’s People website and buy credits so that you can look at the 1932 marriage cert.
You will than have info about the previous generation which will be a basis on which to work backwards
