Could someone please look at the following baptisms for me,

Ann and Maria McDonald 16 Aug 1835 London parents John McDonald and Janet

Elizabeth and Henrietta 24 Mar 1822 Chelsea parents John and Jennett

John McDonald 02 May 1830 London parents John and Jannett

I stupidly forgot to take down info when I had Ancestry, and now have bought a death cert for possible mother so need to check parents address on the baptisms and John's occupation as it may change everything I thought I knew!
. Thankyou very much.

Thankyou so much Erika.

The death cert I have bought for a Janet McDonald may be the right or wrong one.

But it's defintely not the mother of John and Ann as they are on the 1841 census with parents, but she may be the mother of Elizabeth and Henrietta.

Back to the drawing board. Thanks again.

Thanks Erika that's the census I was just looking at. :-)

I know what happened to Henrietta as she is my gt gt etc grandmother, but still trying to work back to be certain whether John is on the 1841 and whether the death cert is the right one. Another 20 years of searching might do it. ;-)

ErikaH Report 26 Mar 2024 16:13

Presumably, the cert pre-dates the 1841 census

What was the address? And who was the informant?

Just before , the death is Jan 1841 6 White Hart Court and gives her as wife of John McDonald 'weaver', informant Elizabeth McDonald of same address.

I think that the John McDonald in the 1841 is the most likely as he is in Turks Row Morbys Yard, St Luke Chelsea, Kensington, London & Middlesex, England as a pensioner, which is the road parallel to Jews Row, both near the Chelsea Hospital.

No sadly not. I did think I had an image of the marriage of Henrietta McDonald to George Collins 1834 but may have lost it when computer crashed some years back. Possibly didn't show much.

That's what I thought Erika.

I'm just combing through the pages in 1851 Turks Row, so many people crammed in to courts, must have been hellish. I 'think' John and Jennet were Scottish, but really that's only based on the name.

What I am sure of is that Henrietta gives her birth place consistently as New Buckenham Norfolk, 1817/18 but why parents would have been there is a mystery.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 26 Mar 2024 16:49

As she was born on 7th June 1817, and wasn't baptised until 1822, you may forever be in the dark on that one

Erika, I do think I might have had a breakthrough of sort lol ,On the 1841 in Turks Row there is an Ann listed just below John. with her son Thomas, I think she is still there in 1851. 1841 surname was transcribed as Ann Amos but in 1851 clearly Enniss with another son , so ENNISS, THOMAS MCDONALD
GRO Reference: 1841 J Quarter in KENSINGTON UNION Volume 03 Page 228

fingers crossed that is Henrietta's sister Ann. it's a possible lead anyway.

and found in 1861 where she has more children :-) including a Henrietta.

Sometimes it helps just to ask the question as it can set the mind off on another track

An Ann MacDonald was a witness to Henrietta's marriage - not that that helps necessarily.
