Women did volunteer before the 1939 register was done. My Mum did and was in barracks. Yes Annie was older, but they would have needed cooks and cleaners. So don’t discount the idea completely.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 20 Aug 2023 16:06

women were not conscripted until 1941 and even then not those in Annie's age group. The 1939 register was done on 29 September 1939 only a few weeks after war broke out so she would have been unlikely to have been in the services at that point

thankyou all for looking i will keep plodding on :-)

If Annie was still alive and in the Uk during the war and without any family responsibilities she would have been called up for war work. Which means she could have ended up anywhere on the country. All adding to the difficulties of tracking her down.

Erika, don’t you recognise a typo, or even an autocorrect?

This was always going to be a difficult one to solve. A surname change is probably the most likely and, as suggested by George, she could have gone anywhere in the world.

ArgyllGran Report 15 Aug 2023 18:53

If she's on the 1939 Register, it must be under some other surname.

The Register lists a large number of women named Ann/Annie with DOB 1/5/1899 - and of course we know that DOB s are not always correct on the Register.

Should you be posting Geoges parents details. He presumably knows who they are and I am not sure we (corrected) 'need to'

The link posted is to another of Georges threads, about the Malloy family.

Edit: I see you have amended your post.
