My Great Aunt Bessie/Elizabeth Potter, 8 Sep 1903, Pontypridd, Glam to 21 Dec 1969 Adelaide, Australia, married Alexander Murray Aston 28 Apr 1908, South Australia, to 6 Aug 1954 South Australia. They married 29 Sep 1928, Adelaide, Australia.

They had 3 girls, Colleen Glynda Aston, 1933. Gwynith Hope Aston, 1936 and Bronwyn Elizabeth Aston, 1945.

I know the names are correct, but the DOB's were given to me from a family member.

I know Australian records are different to ours, can you give me some guidance as to how I can verify all of the above information, and find any spouses/children of the 3 girls.

I know the name of the spouse of Gwynith, it was Marcus Gustav Krieg, and I was told they had 5 children, Paul 1953, Anthea 1965, Meredith 1963, Kathryn 1966 and Bronwyn 1966.

My question is how can I verify all of this please.

Just for background information, Bessie/Elizabeth Potter is the sister of my Grandmother, I don't need any information regarding any of her siblings as I have it all, they were Mildred (my Nan) Gertrude May, Eliza Ellen, Charity Louise, and Arthur Wyndham, all from Wales.

Bessie/ Elizabeth emigrated to Australia as a young woman, not sure when. 1920's probably.

Thank you in advance.

Alexander Murray Aston was born in Australia in 1907 and died there on 6 August 1954

Nothing on FMP for the daughters - presumably too recent

Found by googling South Australia bmd

https://www.sa.gov.au/topics/family-and-community/births-deaths-and-marriages/family-research

Anyone has access to:

birth certificates more than 100 years old
death certificates more than 30 years old
marriage certificates more than 75 years old.

Also tells you who can and who can't apply under what circumstances without those limits

You could also try Trove Australian newspapers - there may be family notices

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/

That's the first bit of incorrect information I was given then!!, thank you ErikaH.

Thank you greyghost, I didn't realise there was an Australian bmd. I will have a look at that.

Electoral rolls for South Australia show an Alexander Murray Aston with Bessie Humphrys Aston at 22 Porter Street, Parkside in 1939, 1941, but in 1943 there on his own. He's a Salesman. She appears to be recorded at a hostel in Lobethal in 1943

That's interesting!!

I do know that Bessie and daughter Bronwyn came to the UK for a family reunion, I have the group photo, I found the passenger list in 1951, which would be correct, and now you have said that I see the name of her mother was stated as Bessie H Aston, which I hadn't noticed before. I have no idea where the Humphrys came from.

Deborah

Deborah Report 8 Jul 2021 13:10

Just googled it, Gwern Avenue is an address in Wales.

My Mum told me she worked for Woolworths, and went out on a £10 ticket.

Might be worth looking back for earlier generation marriages to see if the Humphrys/Humphreys/Humphries name comes up anywhere (as with the Wyndham)

Not from Bessies immediate parents

Arthur Wyndham Potter is her brother, Arthur Potter and Charity Martin are her parents.

Deborah

Deborah Report 8 Jul 2021 13:25

This has just struck a cord with me!!!!! A few years ago her daughter Gwynith told me that when Bessie's mother died in 1911, after giving birth to Wyndham, she died in childbirth, she asked me if I could find out where her mother was sent, and I am sure I found a lady by the surname Humphries where she could have been staying, I have that somewhere in my archives.

Yes - realise the relationship, was hoping to find a possible Humphreys link. The 2 birth records confirmed their Mothers maiden name and so the marriage.

She probably adopted the name Humphries as a sort of thank you. I will have to find the census, or whatever it was I found. I did tell Gwynith, but she said her head was unable to deal with these sort of things any longer so I didn't pursue it, but I will still have the paperwork.

Deborah

Deborah Report 8 Jul 2021 13:30

Yes I do have that, but your version gives more information, thank you for that. Will go and find the Humphries paperwork.
