Hi
Can anyone help with finding a moira Collins who married barrie Hargreaves in 1958.
They had, or possibly had one daughter Ann in 1959 in Burnley. Can't find another marriage at all.
No clues as yet as to where she went.
Thanks :-)

They seem to have gone to New Zealand - or at least Barrie did.

Barrie's middle initial is L, per the marriage record, which I won't post, as he may still be living:

Hi. Yes think barrie left moira behind and went back to new Zealand, maybe 1959?.not certain when he travelled back. He does last year. Not sure what happened to moira as she seemed to stay in Burnley. I have sent for the certificate of marriage so I can confirm moiras age. I did wonder if she was born in New Zealand perhaps? I've not found a birth of a moira Collins thst will fit so I'm hoping the marriage certificate helps. Thanks for the info on barrie. And his parents.

The marriage was not in a CofE Church

Perhaps Moira was born somewhere other than England/Wales?

Possible marriage for the daughter in 1983 - find the info on freebmd

If it's the right Ann, she is - possibly - on the ER in Nelson

I'll also chrck the electoral rolls if I get chance for the fifties and early sixties. Just waiting for the certificate to arrive.
Thanks again

No birth in Scotland for a Moira Collins who could have married in 1958, other than one with additional forenames

Collins is, of course, very much an Irish name

The daughter (IF the marriage I found is the 'right' Ann) is in the BT Phone Book

Just discovered she was born Ireland. Waterford . Mothers maiden name maybe whelan or mccrane. Connections also to Dublin. Now being told she went to New Zealand with barrie. I'll check back on that.but must not have stayed there if she did as was back in Burnley mid sixties apparently. Think born 1934ish but I'll know that once certificate comes.
Thanks again for your help. :-)

Is there a way of checking births in Waterford Ireland at all. I have heard its very difficult to find Irish ancestors.

I don't see her death or remarriage in England/Wales from 1960 onwards, as either Collins or Hargreaves.

Maybe she returned to Ireland. Or moved abroad again after her time in Burnley in the 1960s.

EDIT:

There's a 2016 death in Doncaster RD of a Moira Collins, born 1930 - but that might be a Moira Bryan who married a Collins in Doncaster in 1955.

Did you see my info about the possible whereabouts of her daughter?

Or don't you actually wish to make contact with anyone?

Maddie Report 1 Sep 2020 15:38

there is this IF she dropped the bridget
Name: Bridget M Collins
Mother's Surname: Whelan
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1937
Registration district: Waterford
Birth Country: Ireland
Volume: 4
Page: 454

Shirley Report 1 Sep 2020 19:03

Mm that might be her, the one called Bridget maybe.
Reply to Erika.. Her daughter I think got adopted. Her daughter doesn't know anything else either apparently. I may know more in a few days but I'm in contact with the daughter Anne's daughter in law.
I'll check if she still lives in Nelson area. But she knows nothing more than us. Thanks for all the info. I'll post when I get the marriage certificate through.

Hi. Need to add that Ann that marries in 1983 is not the Ann born in 1959. Ann got adopted and her name was changed.
Hopefully some clues will come from the marriage certificate
Thankyou
:-)

It would have saved time if you’d mentioned that you knew about the adoption at the start

Your opening post suggested you weren’t even sure there had been a child

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 1 Sep 2020 21:59

Regardless of what may have happened to her mother, it sounds like a very unhappy situation if the daughter was adopted when she had a father living in NZ.

Shirley Report 3 Sep 2020 09:34

Hi
I did not realise about the adoption. Getting bits of info. It's through a third person. I had no idea Ann was adopted out when I first got the info. I presumed Ann was still alive with the same name. Apologies.
