Find Ancestors

Been trying to work this out for a while, received birth certificate today and totally thrown me. Have a mother name of Florence Emily Carter and no father details.
1901 census has Annie Tilley as 3 year old that blends in with mother Florence Tilley thats ok but then has married to Charles Tilley, my tree comes up with surname Burfoot no mention of any Tilley's
Annie later married Reginald Moon of 1891 (dob)
I have Alfred Burfoot 1860 married Matilda Leathem 1861 and had children Burfoot but this Annie Tilley been thrown into the mix and trying to work out where she comes into it?

Thanks everyone, I am a novice, the information was partly from my mother, she has many names for an individuals which makes it harder as her memory is quite vague,
I got my information from 1901 census household transcription as i was trying to get to the bottom of Annie Tilley, mum calls her Annie Tilley Burfoot for some reason.
Looking at my tree Tilley had siblings called Lizzie Burfoot 1883, Francis Burfoot 1888, Jeanie Burfoot, which mum remembers ??? and looking into this the parents would be Alfred Burfoot 1860 married a Matilda Leathem 1861
The birth certificate came today for Annie Tilley no father just a mother Florence Emily Carter living at and born at 29 College Street Putney

There's a lot of info on there - you should have kept to the one thread, Tony, to save us duplicating research.

On the other thread, you say you believe Annie was adopted by the Burfoot family.

So would Annie Tilley Carter be know as Annie Tilley do you think? Is this where I am getting confused and Annie Tilley Burfoot ? The information about Clare Cottage Dartford is correct that was where my mother was born.

Tilley is her middle name, not her surname.

There's not necessarily any Tilley family involved.


The 1901 census with Charles and Florence Tilley with their daughter Annie is nothing to do with your family.

She was born as Annie Tilley Carter, then presumably adopted by the Burfoots, and took their name, so she married as Burfoot.

So if Tilley is her middle name on th 1901 census the info on the annie, florence and charles are not the right family?

You'll probably never know who her father was, as he's not named on the birth cert.

There are several Florence Emily Carters - she wasn't necessarily from London.
What address is given on the birth cert?
Are there any other details about Florence?

No, as I said above, the census with Charles and Florence is nothing to do with it.

Florence Emily Carter I think it says a servant and in brackets domestic, 29 College Street Putney
