Janette Report 14 Apr 2020 13:48

Hi ArgyllGran thank you again . I did not no any thing of Hilda but how sad that she lost her family.hope with her getting married she went on to have a happy life

ArgyllGran Report 14 Apr 2020 13:19

Just a possibility:

Marriages Dec 1943 (>99%)
Barnes John Redfern Chesterfield 7b 1681
Redfern Hilda Barnes Chesterfield 7b 168

??Maybe -

Hilda Barnes
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007
Name: Hilda Barnes
Death Age: 75
Birth Date: 16 Jun 1919
Registration Date: Dec 1994
Registration district: Bradford
Inferred County: West Yorkshire
Register Number: E52A
District and Subdistrict: 0811E
Entry Number: 7

There was a Barnes/Redfern child born in Chesterfield RD in 1945 with the first name of one of Hilda's sisters - but may be coincidence;

ArgyllGran Report 14 Apr 2020 13:11

I wonder what happened to poor Hilda, who was presumably not in the house at the time - or maybe she was but survived.
She'd lost all her family and her baby.

Perhaps you know what happened to her - you don't mention her in your opening post, but maybe you were aware of a Hilda in your family?

Thank you ArgyllGran for your help

ArgyllGran Report 14 Apr 2020 12:41

Births Sep 1938 (>99%)
Redfern Anthony W (mms Reffern ) Sheffield 9c 649

"Reffern" is a mistrancription on FreeBMD. On the image his mother's maiden name was Redfern.

So Anthony was the illegitimate child of William & Ellen's eldest daughter Hilda :

Births Jun 1919 (>99%)
Redfern Hilda (mms Griffin) Ecclesall B 9c 663

Hi ErikaH thank you so much for your help . so it sounds like their house was bombed so sad . Just looked on the CWGC site and I found Anthony William Redfern aged 2 born 1938 . he also died at the same address but mother as been Hilda,do you think it should say Ellen as mother thanks

ErikaH Report 14 Apr 2020 12:06

Just looked at the CWGC site. Their deaths are on there. Check it out.

ErikaH Report 14 Apr 2020 12:04

If they died as a result of enemy action in WW2, the records will be on the CWGC site

The cause of death will also be on any of the death certs, which you will be able to purchase when the current emergency ends
