So to summarise it looks like Thomas Sutton was the illegimate son of Sarah Sutton & Samuel Turner.

Samuel Turner was the illegimate son of Elizabeth Turner. Elizabeth Turner went on to marry Luke Leigh (also known as Lees/Leese) who could possibly be Samuel's blood father. Samuel used the surnames Turner and Lees.

I'm wondering whether this is Samuel Turner/Lees in the 1841 Census?

Could perhaps Samuel Turner have been born out of wedlock? Luke Lees is given as head of household, is he the same Luke Lees that was a Witness to Samuel Turner & Charlotte Clare's Marriage? Could the Elizabeth Lees aged 62 be Samuel's mother? Could Elizabeth Lees be Elizabeth Turner?

Hi,

Thank you for the information, l have been looking throw the threads and have put together some information

Thomas Sutton 1825 Married Harriet Clare they had a daughter Ellen Sutton

After Harriet's death, Thomas remarried Sarah Cope age 67 they married 19th September 1880. Obviously Sarah had been married before and cope was her married name, Sarah's father is named Daniel Mayor.

In both marriages, Thomas stated his father is Samuel Lees.

Can anyone help me to find Thomas Sutton birth record, l think is mother is named Hannah Sutton and information will be helpful as l think Thomas was born outside of marriage

thank you

Amanda

Hi,

Ellen Sutton was definitely born Ellen Sutton.

We defo know her mother is Harriet Clare and her father is Thomas Sutton? we also know that bot Harriet and Thomas had Ellen late in life.

We also know that both Harriet and Thomas have been married before?

Who was Thomas and Harriet married to before?

Possible Thomas Sutton was born outside of marriage, possible Sutton was Thomas's mother maiden name?

Possible the lees name was is really father name?

Can we find some information on Thomas and is parents.

regards

Amanda

Now I'm not finding a Birth Registration for Ellen :-S

Possible two reasons for this is that

* the birth wasn't Registered as it wasn't compulsory to do so
Or
* Ellen was adopted (just a thought)

That birth you have given above Ellen as Harriet Sutton shows that that child was illegitimate as no mother's name is given

With regards to the name change, I've had something similar in my own Tree.

My Ancestor was illegitimate he was called Richard Brealey. According to the Parish Baptism Register in 1837 he was 'Richard Brealey the bastard son of Lydia Brealey & Richard Harvey'. His Parents Lydia Brealey & Richard Harvey went on to marry in 1841.
Their son Richard Brealey thereafter had problems as to which surname to use and can be found as both Richard Brealey and Richard Harvey Jr.

With regards to the 1841 Census I've given above, I'm unsure now if that is the right Thomas
