Thanks safc, I think this is Thomas' mother as the Long Bennington burial reg has Ann inserted as if omitted, although she was otherwise always just Elizabeth.

Nice try Sylvia but I think this is probably that Thomas. Julie's Thomas has well and truly disappeared. Personally, I think he's changed his name.

Just a wee snippit mentioning Thomas and an Allcock boy.

"...Bennington, and was killed on Friday afternoon by being run over. It appeared from the evi- dence that George Dolby and Thomas Luty, labourers, in the employ of Mr. Brown, Long Bennington, came to Newark on Friday with three carts, one of which the deceased..."
22 November 1867 - Nottinghamshire Guardian - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England

It appears that 11 year old Frankish Allcock had been driving one of the carts. Before leaving Newark, they had stopped at the Ten Bells, Cartergate and had 4 pints of ale between them. The young lad also had some and was 'excited'. Upon reaching the Queen public house in Balderton they were all walking towards it when a gig approached and the 2 older men ran to move their carts out the way. The young lad was behind and was skipping away but when the other men looked back he was on the ground dying from a fractured skull and internal injuries. No one saw what happened to him but the elder men were described as 'not being drunk.'

VERDICT Accidentally killed.

Thomas jnr's death notice.

I agree:

Skircoat Green is very close to Halifax.

In 1861 census he's married to Martha, but they seem to have separated. In 1871 Martha is married but not with Thomas, who's in Halifax, with a lodger.
In 1881 she's calling herself unmarried, and living with the above Harriet and Harriet's husband Charles and family.

Name spelled Leuty on GRO:

I didn't have time to search deeply last night!

But at least, I/we have ruled out that one.
