safc thank you for all that lovely information it has been a great help. Somewhere along the line we thought Maud had married a Alfred Welfare but seeing the dates etc we see the error of our ways. The two Mauds were born a year apart which makes it more difficult but so glad that is cleared up and also that they were both Maud Jane Clarke. So much useful information, thanks again.
Argyll Gran, thank you for your help as well. Mauds father,Onslow was indeed born in Edinburgh. His father,John Power Clarke was in the military there he was a bandmaster but we could find no record of his birth or who his mother was.

Thanks for that Argyllgran, all info welcome and appreciate you going the extra mile. I do know about his step mother.
One question as I know it is difficult to get Canadian information but is there any way I can find out if John Maurice Mackrory had any children and if so how could I get in touch with them.
