Find Ancestors

I have been trying to find out how he is related to John William Elwiss Gray. John has always described him as his son. I have not been able to find a birth for him to confirm this.

However I have found these two 1939 registers which may help.????

The connection between Watson and Gray is John Gray married Kate Watson.

Well there's only the three of them at the rebourn way address
Denis birth should be reg in June qtr 1927 . This is the only one coming up

Not seeing any marriage to match the surnames so maybe the mum had been married before

As you say Kate was married before but when Denis was born she was married to John Gray. She did have a son by her first Marriage and his name was Richard H watson. b 1911 south shields workhouse.

Shirley that marriage is looking good. Scunthorpe is the right area. Perhaps I should send for that and see what it says. Although I still think it will say John is his dad which won't help me. I am running out of ideas so I think I will have to send for it.

John was married in 1906 to a Sarah Niles - Conisbrough, Lincs. She died 1915 Glandford Brigg probably, which would allow for the second marriage 1916 to Mary Proctor as already posted.

(1911 says married 5 years 2 children born). A further child James born 1912 Glandford Brigg

Could Denis be a Grandson brought up by John?

Yes I suppose he could be a grandson. The most likely candidate is his son Stanley Gray b1917 died 1933. I do not have anything on him at all.
although saying that he would have been 10yrs old when denis was born.

The only other person I can't find anything about is Mary Ethal gray b14/8/1890 in Scunthorpe. She was Johns Sister. Maybe Denis was her child.
