I'm in some confusion the above married Laura Mary Bellerby at the parish church in Humbleton July 1889 his name on the certificate is down as Tom and on there marriage certificate his father's name is down as Tom Elliott ( Labourer ) his mother was Esther Elliot and Robert Whisker down as his father who she married after Thomas G was born but his surname wasn't changed, surely there cannot be 2 Thomas G Elliott who married a Laura M Bellerby and whose mother was Esther Elliot so my query is who is the Tom Elliott down as his father on his marriage certificate, Thomas & Laura had 3 children Herbert James, Lillie & Thomas there mother Laura died in June 1898 or could I have it all wrong he is down on the census both as Thomas & Tom. |

He's on a few trees on Ancestry, all giving his parents as Robert Wisker & Esther Elliott. |

So evidently Thomas Gibson Elliott was the illegirimate son of Esther born 1864 but not baptised until 1868 after she was married to Robert Wisker. One would assume that if Robert was the father he would be named on the baptism record and the child would have been given the Wisker surname. I think that it's possible that the child's father was a Gibson, hence his middle name. Just conjecture, of course. |
