Having had a clea look of census returns etc I see now that two Alexander Holliday's appear to have been in the US at the same time on various boats, one born in Hexham and the other Liverpool. |

Alexander's parents are as you have posted Catherine, Joseph Holliday 1848-1935 and Mary Sanderson 1848-1898 who married at Hexham in 1870. |

If you think that this family is definately not your Alexander, then are you sure that your Alexander joined the Navy as the naval records seem to fit with above family. |

Alexander Holliday born in Hexham had no connection to Liverpool this is a different family who originated from that city. |

If he was due to finish his apprenticeship in April 1909, then my posting looks like it could very well be your man as event date is 5 April 1909 and this was the date he is noted as being finished his service on the ship Idomeneus. |

Hi I have all those links except the waiter on the ship, I have also gone through the local newspaper from 1901-1912 but nothing. I also have a copy of his Father's obituary in December 1935 and there is no mention of him. |
