Hi all.
I am absolutely over whelmed with the replies. Thanks so much to you all. Really grateful for your comments alviegal, Margee and Kucinta.

After reading through the comments, I agree and think I may need to purchase the birth certificate just to be sure to follow the correct path.

I did see that I had a Selwyn Waters in common with a Barbara Waters and I did send her a message but I haven't heard anything back- maybe she no longer uses the website? I did send her a message last weekend, but ill just wait and see if I hear anything from her.

After searching myself, I did start to wonder whether Selwyn's parents were even married, and then thought that maybe they weren't from Neath as I originally thought.. but as we've said.. I will probably need his birth certificate to locate their names. Where do I go about finding a birth certificate? Can I order one online or is there somewhere specific I need to go?

Thanks all for your amazing help and support. Made me all excited!!
:-D

Thanks for the welcome Cynthia! :)

Order certificates from General Register Office here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You have the volume and page number. I posted them but think you already had them. Cost is £9.25.

I've just re-read all of the information and can I just thank you again. The information you've all been able to give me is amazing and will be even more amazing if its the correct line. I cannot thank you enough..

Can I just ask, how you found the information? Is it through a certain website?

Thanks Margee for the website link, I shall take a look now.

I think it's a few sites that Kucinta et al found the relevant info...so buy that birth certificate and then,if it shows John and Caroline to be the parents, you could look at the Bridgend marriage posted.

Once you have that it will make it easier to go back through the censuses although the suppositions made already look encouraging

Yes they do HeyJudeB4Beatles. Looks very promising. I'm currently in the process of purchasing the Birth Certificate of Selwyn in order to follow the correct lines!

I have ordered the birth certificate of Selwyn Waters. Fingers crossed!!

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 4 Sep 2015 20:53

I used a combination of Find my past for censuses, and cross referenced those with material I found in Pembroke Marriages, Baptisms etc also on FMP, and in FreeBMD.

I was simply building on the Information regarding the Bridgend marriage, and tracing what I believe to be the John Waters from the marriage and the 1911 census that Margee posted early on, together with her summary of censuses 1901, and 1891. regarding John Waters.

Ahh I see. I just wondered that's all. Cannot wait to see if Selwyn Waters' parents names are those you found and traced. Thanks Kucinta xx

Hi. Sorry to message again. I just wondered if there was any way of finding if there were any children born from a marriage? thanks! :-D

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 5 Sep 2015 19:12

After 1911 you can find children of a marriage on FreeBMD by entering last name and mother's maiden name. For instance if you type in surname Waters, mother's maiden surname Owen in Neath you will see these:

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waters Selwyn Owen Neath 11a 2165

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1912 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WATERS Blodwen Owen Neath 11a 2055

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1913 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waters Thomas G Owen Neath 11a 2074

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Jun 1915 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waters Vernon L Owen Neath 11a 2112

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Mar 1917 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Waters Glenys Owen Neath 11a 1749

Before that you have to rely on baptism records on Familysearch and census records.

Fab great. Thanks Margee!!

I have a feeling (after lots of research - back and forth on different sites etc) that the Blodwen Waters mentioned and Thomas G Waters mentioned are siblings of Selwyn Waters. I am not sure that the Vernon L Waters is, but I may be wrong. I'm impatient waiting for the birth certificate and slightly addicted to the research!

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 5 Sep 2015 19:48

there's no such thing as slightly addicted - just admit it, you've got the bug! :-D

NatalieSerenaWaters

NatalieSerenaWaters Report 5 Sep 2015 21:26

I have definitely got the bug. When I'm not searching on my computer, I'm sitting with a cuppa thinking of what I could try and search for ????

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 5 Sep 2015 22:38

Well, I've just looked up Vernon L Waters on search members trees on this site, and seems he's on the tree of Barbara Waters that you've already tried to contact. She also has Glenys as 1916, which if it was late in the year might not have been registered until Q1 1917, plus she has Thomas. She has Blodwen, but as 1910.

Barbara may not be an active member anymore. Have you checked whether she has opened your message? If you go to your 'sent messages', if there is an envelope against your message to Barbara, she has not opened it. If the envelope has disappeared, then she has opened your message.

You mentioned your grandfather was born 1938, but it looks to have been 1937:

Births Jun 1937 Waters Thomas J Hill Neath 11a 1027

Death:

Name: Thomas John Waters
Birth Date: 28 Mar 1937<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Date of Registration: Apr 1997
Age at Death: 60
Registration district: Pontypridd
Inferred County: Glamorgan
Register Number: B84
District and Subdistrict: 8624B
Entry Number: 13

You knew about his parents' marriage:

Marriages Dec 1934
Hill Amy E Waters Neath 11a 1887
Waters Selwyn Hill Neath 11a 1887

this looks like your great grandmother's death:

Name: Amy Elizabeth Waters
Birth Date: 26 Dec 1912
Date of Registration: Feb 1993
Age at Death: 80
Registration district: Neath
Inferred County: Breconshire, Glamorgan
Register Number: B35D
District and Subdistrict: 8961B
Entry Number: 13

Selwyn, again as you probably know, had died much earlier:

Name: Selwyn Waters
Birth Date: abt 1911
Date of Registration: Sep 1968
Age at Death: 57
Registration district: Neath
Inferred County: Glamorganshire
Volume: 8b

Thanks kucinta.

My grandfather was born in 1937, I mistakenly put the wrong year - his wife was born in 1938 - Zelda Francis horton. They had three children; I was trying to find her parents also.. I found that her mothers maiden name was Francis (hence her middle name) but when I found her possible father, there were two records for similar names. I can't quite remember now as I'm not on my computer at the moment. But I couldn't make any sense of it.

What you found seems to be promising, and maybe Vernon Waters was a sibling to my great grandfather Selwyn!

I've checked if Barbara has opened my mail and sadly she hasn't which leads me to believe that she no longer uses this. Is there any other way I could find her email address or something? I did try social media but I could be there for ever and a day!

Thanks x

Also, I forget to say thanks for I didn't know when my grandmother Amy had passed. I briefly remember her from when I was little, but I was very young. <3
