rI am trying to help someone who is hitting a brick wall, He is looking for details on his Grandfather Robert Hardy-Dawson no date of birth born 241 City Road Islington married Louisa Hutchinson Cannot find any thing at all.
Found a son born Sept 1912 name Robert L Hardy-Dawson Holborn 1b 1231.
I personally have looked on three sites without any luck.
Please if any one can help i would be very grateful.

have you got their marriage cert that will give his age and fathers name .if known

according to the GRO record the son isnt Hardy Dawson

if he hasnt got a birth date for Robert senior how does he know the address where born ??

FMP has as both Dawson and Hardy-Dawson

Is your friend not the child of Robert L Hardy - Dawson?
Or are there other children of Grandfather Robert from whom he is descended?

The only other time I'm seeing the Hardy-Dawson name in bmd's is for 3 births in the 90's which, looking at the mmn, would fit a marriage where the H is shown as an initial not part of the surname.

So could granddad's marriage have been registered with surname only as Dawson?

And/or is Hutchinson the maiden name and Louisa married with a different surname?

Do you have the birth certificate for Robert L or the marriage certificate for Robert and Louisa.

If so, could you please give all the information on each of the certificates

My friends father was Robert L Hardy=Dawson born Sept 1912,his wife was Louisa Hutchinson.
My friend cannot and neither can i find his Grandfather Robert Hardy -Dawson (NO L), not sure how they know but the info he has given me is he was born at 241 City Road Islington.
I have searched Dawson and Hardy separately tomorrow i will phone and ask how they know this.

But the birth record of the one born in 1912 has mmn as Hutchinson so how could he be married to a Hutchinson too !?!? Puzzled !

The generations are getting mixed up here, I reckon

It's unlikely - to say the least - that father and son married women with identical names

Advise your friend to buy a copy of the 1912 birth cert. It will name the father - also say whether Hutchinson was the mother's name when she married

The only other option is to wait for the 1921 census...........in about 7 years' time

Thankyou Jacqueline, my friend has the birth certificate of the 1912 birth which is his father Robert L Hardy-Dawson stating that the mothers maiden name was Louisa Hutchinson.
They are trying to find the birth certificate of Robert Hardy-Dawson ( the father of the above Hardy-Dawson).
Some how, maybe from family they know he was born 241 City Road Islington , that is the only info they have

Until you find the marriage of the parents ( not that there seems to be any record, so perhaps it occurred either in Scotland or Ireland ), you won't know how old the father was.

Does the birth cert actually say 'formerly' Hutchinson?

What was the father's occupation?

And the address on the birth cert......................

Have you tried looking for his death?

The 1912 birth is the only instance of the surname.........
