Hi Maddie, thanks for that - can you make out the occupation please? I know he was a miner from previous census and occupation given on their marriage. |

Can't find him on the 1880 census in USA. This one's close but he's a James instead of Josiah: |

I can't even find Ella 1889 or any of the others on shipping records, they must have come back shortly after her birth if Jane marries Joseph cook in 1890!! |

Thanks all. I think the shipping record is not him, but Gins death could be the first son - there wasn't another Josiah birth registered in the right time frame. So maybe she went down to Cornwall for a time - and the Eva's originated from Redruth. Though I can't place the rest of the family there after they migrated to Furness. |

Do you know if Josiah is down as being deceased on this? I know it doesn't always help. |

A different version of the 1905 marriage says Josiah is an engineer. Doesn't say deceased but depends if question was asked or not: |

Sounds a bit of an odd one, that Josiah Eva. |

I think these may relate to the same man, but there's some variance on dates: |

Have found the death certificate for Isaac Mawson on FamilySearch. |

Could be that Josiah Eva died in Mexico. He's not on British Nationals died overseas but if they were mining and not near a consulate then it might not have been properly registered. |

Re: the John Eva death that safc posted above, again the info on the actual certificate is vague - nothing known about him other than born in England and was single. He also died of TB. Had been in Utah 40 years. Worked in copper mines. |

Wow, thanks for all this - have been doing a bit of digging around re John Eva - found him on 1900/1910 census with wife Nellie (Franks), and her daughter. He claims to have arrived in US somewhere between 1879-81 depending on which census you look at. |

Didn't realise you could view the death certs on familysearch - cheers for that tip Marie - just had a look at them both, and like you say no more clues there. |
