This is the listing for Margery Alice's divorce record from National Archives:

Reference:J 77/1491/6077
Description: Divorce Court File: 6077.
Appellant: Harry Rowlands.
Respondent: Alice Marjorie Rowlands.
Co-respondent: Jack Edwards, struck through and Charles Henry Taylor.
Type: Husband's petition for divorce [hd].

Date: 1919
Held by: The National Archives, Kew
Legal status: Public Record
Language: English

So it looks as though one of the two men mentioned may be the father of Margaret? If Margery was still married to Harry when Margaret was born then it's likely that Harry was named as father on birth certificate even if he wasn't. It may be worth ordering a copy of the divorce file to see what it says. I'm afraid those two names are too common to try and track without further info.

There are three William Swan's in the Canadian Army, all of the right age. One is already married to an Arabel, the other has father Sam so that leaves this one:

He's the only one of the three who was from Montreal, where Edith was headed.

His mother still lives in Edinburgh at 21 Jamaica Street.

I've just had a look at the marriage register on Ancestry and he signed his name "Lamarre"

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 11 Jul 2013 10:00

I think the surname is Lamarre, not Lanarre.
In the image on Ancestry, although the main part of the record says Lanarre, Henry's signature is clearly Lamarre, and the transcriber has put Lamarre.
His father's occupation is first written as Minister of Religion, then that's scored out, and Carpenter is substituted.
