Does anyone know of any records that I could search in Ireland for Richard Hurley? I didn't have any success in the coast guard records for England. I'm thinking he had to get from Ireland to England but have been unable to trace anything. Has anyone ever tried to order coast guard records? I also have not located a burial record on the IOW. I'm wondering if I order the Hurley death certificate if that would give me any additional information that I don't already have. Any insight would be welcomed. |

Yes, I'm aware of that article. It's very sad as that happened in March 1866 and he was a hero helping with rescue from the Brig. Then in August he dies as a result of his carelessness packing and cleaning the ship gun. I believe that he was in a hurry to get home and see his new baby who would have only been months old at the time. Putting these pieces of the puzzle together made me more interested in learning more about him. His wife, Louisa Mary was my maternal great-grandmother. Her 2nd marriage to Alfred Loynes (the father of my grandmother) was not a happy one. |

Yes, that would appear to be his death registration although I've never been able to locate a death certificate or cemetary burial for him before. 1866 is certainly his year of death. Any idea where Stoneham is? |

I've responded to those that have asked me questions. All the information about his wife and children I already have. I'm trying to find out more about Richard Hurley prior to his marriage and learn about his origins. I don't see that you have posted information. |

He died in 1866 in an explosion on board ship. The ship he was returning on was preparing to do a gun salute to Queen Victoria as they passed. He hadn't cleaned the gun (cannon) out properly and it exploded. |
