Clara Edwards born Much Marcle Herefordshire Dec 1857
my Grandfathers sister last trace on the 1881 London census
name and birthplace not correct on internet copy but have
copy of original which is right. Clara I believe married Henry
Jenkins in Sept 1881 but neither appear on the 1891 census
and the marriage certificate does not give any family names
or history.

Just so we're sure we have the right Clara can you confirm who your grandfather was and when/where born? (I'm guessing he must have been much younger than Clara?)

1871 is she a servant in Ledbury to Hadges family

"Subject: Clara Edwards

My Grandfather the brother of Clara was John Charles
Edwards born Ledbury Herefordshire 1861 to Mary Edwards
but on birth was registered as a Turner. Mary was living with
John Turner on the 1861 Census not married to him. Clara
also shown as a Turner on this census. Mary and all four
children are in Ledbury Union Workhouse in late 1861 all
four children now listed as Edwards. Mary died in the workhouse
in November 1863 aged 27. Clara and John Charles are shown
on the 1871 census still in the workhouse Clara as a 14 year old
nurse and John as a pauper/scholar aged nine. Mary A. the younger
sister of Clara had died in the workhouse before the census of
1871. James the eldest of the Edwards children was shown as an
apprentice in Eggleton on the 1871 census having left the workhouse about 1867. All these records I have. James died in
South Wales in 1905. and John Charles my Mothers Father in 1931. Unfortunately my Mother who also was Clara Edwards died in 1937 when I was only nine this is my interest in finding the
original Clara.

David - so can you confirm if it was definitely a Jenkins that Clara married, or could it be Dickens per the information posted above?

I do not know who or if my Clara Edwards married as the
last record I have is the 1881 London census where her
name and birthplace is spelt incorrectly but I do have a copy
which does have the correct spelling. The marriage that I
thought was at St Pancras is the wrong Clara Edwards as
she was born in London.

David, a bit confused about your references to the 1881 census. There are no copies of the 1881 census - there is one image available and several transcriptions of that image. Do you mean that she is listed correctly on the image and has been mistranscribed? Please give us the details that you have found, both the incorrect and the correct so that we may look at them ourselves. We may notice something that will help.
