Find Ancestors

Help please. I have contacted memebers who are tracing the same ancestors but nobody has replied. I am therefore goimg to Carlilse to look at parish records in the local library, but am wondering if there is a society in Carlilse who already has information on the Rush family.

Quakerism was very strong in North Cumberland in the 1800s, so Parish Records may not tell you very much.
My own forbears seem to have been equally divided & there was lots of intermarrying, but it does tend to muddy the water a bit.

thanks for all your help, I have got back to Joseph Rush and Mary Stagg married 1790, I am unable to to verify parents of Joseph Rush born 1761, will parish records be of any help, and are they difficult to decipher? thank you

Parish records have existed since 1538 but very few have survived as far back as that. If they have, they are likely to be on microfiche at the local County Records Office....in this case Carlisle. The office used to be at Carlisle castle but that was many moons ago & I have a feeling it will have moved.
It all depends on how well the fiches have been filmed & what sort of state the original records were in, plus you may need some help understanding the English used at the time.

Wisechild is right the Carlisle archive centre moved to new modern facilities about 18 months ago, see above for details and opening times etc. (they have loads of parking facilities). It's a fairly big facility so always room to work, and staff are really helpful.

Hello out there, can anybody help, looking for parents of Joseph Rush born Stanwix/Kingsmoor Cumberland about 1760/61 died Stanwix 1922,( age 61) he married Mary Stagg in 1790 and they had six children, As there are no further records on familysearch I am wondereing what I can do now?
