My great grandparents said you must marry before children and this was VERY stricked in their house ...very very
HAHA they didnt marry till after their 3rd of 18 children were born ....what people say and do are two different things! as we all know now

Brenda, it most certainly was done a lot!!

Our ancestors were nowhere near as straight-laced as we might have been led to believe. There were very many couples who didn't trouble the vicar, as well as bigamy.

Oh dear, I didn`t know that. I have found out on mums side of family, my nan was 6 her brother was 4, when her parents married. That wasn`t done a lot in those days either.

Brenda, describing yourself as a "widow" was a very common thing for unmarried mothers back then.

Thanks for your help. I wonder why she was Macready and her father Fairhurst? She must have got adopted by her stepfather. I doubt she would be on a second marriage at 17. looks like I have more delving to do.
