1891 Censuses
What places are missing?
In addition to the places listed below, numerous British ships are also missing. If you think this may include your ancestor, search The National Archives’ catalogue as above, but enter MISSING instead of the place name.
Remember, though, your ancestor may not have been staying in his or her usual home on the night of the census. It's worth searching, even if your ancestor lived in that small Warwickshire parish, Compton Wyniates, listed below.
England... Durham – Tyne Port Sanitary Floating Hospital missing. Lancashire – Infectious Diseases Hospital partially missing. London – Chelsea return for Victoria Hospital for Children missing. Warwickshire – Compton Wyniates.

Thanks Kathleen and Reggie. I'm doing this for a friend so don't want to get certificates at this stage to save her cost. Aston is certainly the right area of Birmingham. Not sure why I could not find those census entries but still puzzled about 1891. Finding a CASSANDRA should be easy shouldn't it?

This may explain the location of the marriage............IF it's the right man

BUT....with a common name such as his, you need as much verification as possible.
EDIT
Probably not your man.....................occupation doesn't tally with 1901 census

Finding William without knowing his father's name and occupation may prove tricky......I'm assuming you don't have the marriage cert?

Does he name his father on his marriage certificate?

William Henry Clarke, born c 1858 Liverpool, married Cassandra Lorton Gorse, born 1859 in Birmingham, in Kings Norton, Birmingham in 1888. They moved to Wood Green area of North London and son William Bertram Clarke was born early in 1889 and baptised in May 1889. By 1894, they are in the Croydon area and daughter Cassandra Ethel Clarke is born there. I can find the family in 1901 and 1911 census records. I can’t find them in 1891, nor can I find William Henry in any earlier census. Any ideas please?
Thanks. Jim
