The census I was given is more detailed than usual but taking out the extra it gives :-

I am trying to find the births of the parents in 1823 but their places of birth given in 1861 seem unreal. I have tried to find them in 1881 with the hope that their birth places might be nore understandable but, so far, without success. Can anybody see the family with better decriptions of their birth places please?

Frances, I strongly suspect that Ann Gray's (nee Smith) birthplace on that census you posted would be Byker, it's covered by All Saints. It certainly looks like it on the original image of the census.

Hi Ann, I have been studying all your posts in detail and the evidence is most compelling. Please could you tell me the source. I believe that my neighbour, whose family I am researching needs to get a birth certificate for one of the children to confirm Ann Gray nee Nicholson, which I have also found in FreeBMD
