The O'Neill family hailed from Londonderry.
They established themselves in Bridgegate Street, (near the Saltmarket) on or about 1851. 1851 census provides details.
In 1852 two girls of the family accompanied by their aunt, (who resided with the family) emigrated to New York.
I can find no trace of their parents, (James & Alice) and their two brothers John and Felix.
I searched the official scottish government records without success.
A friend suggested they may have died in the 1951/2 cholera epidemic.
Any assistance would be much appreciated

Thank you for digging out information about the O'Neil family of Bridgegate Street.
After this date James, Alice Felix and John simply disappear. The sisters emmigrated to New York but the others did not accompany them
Did they die from cholera?
Are there Glasgow cholera death lists anywhere ?
|
|
As far as I know, there are no lists of deaths from cholera. Statutory records in Scotland did not start until 1855. Deaths prior to this may be on a Mortcloth Schedule for the parish in which they were living at time of death. I looked at the pre 1855 deaths and can find none that fit this family. I did also look in the Catholic section, even although your family seem to be Church of Ireland. There were no entries that fit.
