Find Ancestors

Trying to find information about Thomas Goldsmith-Ryan, Born around 1905 possibly in London.
I can't find any Goldsmith-Ryans in the 1911 census, I was told the family came over from Ireland with the surname 'Ryan' and added 'Goldsmith' in order to find work, but I don't know the date (that they came over or that they changed there name!), and I was also told that the above was born in London! I have found a birth record for a Margaret A Goldsmith-Ryan born in 1896, but I can't find her on the 1901 or 1911 census.

Any advice on where to go from here would be much appreciated!

My dad is Thomas Goldsmith-Ryan Jr Jr Jr or something similar!
The one that got married quite a few times is my Grandfather, Thomas William James Patrick Goldsmith-Ryan, I'm interested in his father, who I can't find anything on!
Where would I get full marriage certificates?

I think Thomas W J P Goldsmith-Ryan died in 1945, that's all the information I have. I think he could have been born before 1905, I have found birth records for Margaret L K Goldsmith-Ryan, whose mother's maiden name is Surman. I believe the above was married to Lillian Surman.

Possibly, her age would be 5 years out, is that a normal discrepancy?

On my last post I put the wrong Thomas, it isn't Thomas WJP but his father that died in 1945. I can't find birth or death records for Thomas WJP, but know he was born in 1937 & died last year.

The sisters of Thomas WJP were born as Goldsmith-Ryans in 1921 and 1927, do you think 'Goldsmith' was put in as a middle name rather than a surname by mistake on his record? I doubt they would change their name back? I think the mother was Lillian Surman.

I've found a Thomas G Ryan who died in Barnstaple in 1946, I think that's him as he lived at least part of his life in North Devon. I still don't know how to find his parents though!

Thank you, last one is definitely him, the others could be, the date I've been given for his birth is 1905 but he seems to have had a kid in 1921 so I wouldn't be surprised if he was born earlier. Where was it you found this?
