Find Ancestors

Hi, Im trying to find out info about Mathias, Iknow he was born 1855 tranent to George/Euphemia Rutherford , He shows on the 1881 census living at 2 Stable Row Townhill Dunfermline with Elizabeth Beveridge who might have been married to William Gillespie before living with Mathias, After 1881 i cant find anything else about him, Did he marry Elizabeth ? Did they have children together ? Any info would be much appricated .......Billy

As Dunfermline is in Fife, Scotland, have you looked on Scotlandspeople for a death or any other records for him/them?

There are a couple of results about this family on a google search, where unfortunatley the link appears to be broken, or possibly the page has been removed.

A number of public trees on Ancestry have his birth as August 15 1855

Have found them on the 1901 census....no children. ( If the ones in 1891 are correct)
With the step son as a William Gillespie looks like it might be right.

Thanks for that info, Vera and detective, I checked 1861 census records and shows Mathias Coates Rutherford place of birth Port Seaton, So looks like he used the name Mathew, certainly looks like him........regards Billy

All info i have recieved seems to match up, which is much appriciated, But im still having problems putting it all together , Reason is, making the connection with William Gillespie, Who shows on 1891 census living with Matthew/ Elspith Rutherford as stepson, I searched again on scotlands people and found marriage cert for William Gillespie / Janet Mckinly 1896,Williams, age 23 Address 2 stable row which ties with my original thread, But marriage cert shows William Gillespie deceased as father, With Elspith Gillespie (Beveridge) as mother , Regards .....Billy

William was born William Gillespie Beveridge mother Elspit Beveridge 1872 Illegitimate.... no father named.

Thanks for that info Vera now have a middle name for him, checked marriage cert for Elspith, date shows 11th Nov 1872,So william could have been born before she married Matthew,But in still puzzled about birth parents names on williams marriage cert, Regards,......billy

Names are sometimes made up for certificates, just to make it look good.

Thats what i was thinking vera....Anyway, The info given by you and others on here has helped me obtain certs needed to solve this puzzle which is greatly appricated, Its my thoughts now that the Gillespie connection with the Beveridges is that Williams middle name Gillespie is that of his birth father ,,,,,,,,Regards Billy

Scottish death certs are extremely useful as they usually show all marriage partners, parents and a witness, usually a son or daughter.
