I am also looking for my paternal grand father. My dad's mum died in child birth in 1897 and he was adopted by his uncle & aunt (his mum's brother & wife). That side of his family were Durant. I am hoping I have my tree right as I am new to this & not good with computers. I think my paternal grand mother was Margaret Ann Durant, Oldham 1865, and the family I am looking for was her husband & my grand father, Alfred Welch, 1858 from stockport. I do not know if he remarried & if i have family still on that side. Any help I would be grateful. Thanx. The Durant family moved from Burton-on-Trent to Llanelli but my dad was born in Stockport and adopted in Llanelli.

I dont know if I have the right man or not but I think so. My dad was born in 1897 and his mum died in childbirth and he was adopted by her brother. her brother was Charles Durant from Burton who moved to work in the brewery here in Llanelli. My dad was given both names, Charles Durant Welch. i think i have got it right as the only Durant Welch marriage i can find is Margaret Ann who died in 1897 so that would match the child birth thing and Alferd Welch which is where the Welch part of his name came from. After my brother was born Lesley Durant Welch the Welch got dropped and my other brother Charlie & I were just Durant. My dad never saw his dad.
