Walter Tyzack and Walter Birch both from Wycombe

Thank you to everyone for their input, as you'll see below, Tyzack followed Birch as Mayor of High Wycombe , and then Charles William Birch's property was let to the Tyzacks to me it seemed there was a close relationship. Walter Birch's business was bought by Gomme, renamed G-plan furniture, you'll note a Gomm as a mayor too ! Perhaps there is some Free Masonary history here too?

Mayors of High Wycombe:
1900-02 Walter Birch JP
1909-10 Walter Birch JP
1913-16 John Gomm
1916-17 Walter Birch JP
1931-32 Walter H. Tyzack JP

"Charles William Birch (apprenticed at 13 to Birch) was William Birch’s grandson. He left to set up Birch and Alpe in about the 1920s because he didn’t have ‘parity of esteem’ with Walter Birch’s son (according to a document in CBS) Alpe was his wife’s maiden name. Made high class upholstery – 3 piece suites – and furniture for shipping lines, including the Queen Mary. Employed around 40. After closure the factory was let out to Tyzaks" possibly in 1952/53

BTW Birch is my grandfather's mother's maiden name, Hilda Birch.
Thanks in advance for some assistance if possible.

.............it's very interesting!

As Walter Birch's father was also a Chair Manufacturer and is noted in 1871 census as employing quite a lot of men and boys, it could be that Walter Tyzack was employed by him.
In 1871 Walter Tyzack was a Saw Manufacturer, as was his father, but could be that he went to work for William Birch and learnt how to make chairs and became a chair maker in his own right?
Seems quite logical to me?

Could you say where and when Walter Birch was born please?

Catherine

Catherine Report 16 Oct 2012 15:04

I was hoping his wife's maiden name was Birch, but no such luck.

Could be Walter Birch married into the family but I can't see a marriage for a Walter Birch to someone Tyzack?

brummiejan Report 16 Oct 2012 14:56

This is a very tricky ask - the only way is to research both families thoroughly and hope there is a connection somewhere. You are the one who needs to do this I think!
Just to add - there is at least one very extensive Tyzack tree on Ancestry, but no Walter Birch anywhere in it. So you might have a struggle here I think.

Please can anyone assist in seeing if there is a marriage or blood relationship somewhere between Walter Tyzack and Walter Birch both from Wycombe, both JPs, both mayors and both chairmakers?
Thanks
