My great grandmother was named Mabel Crobie, she was born in Ireland, possibly Cork, in 1888. She came to this country as a young girl, alone. This was the result of a court order, she said. She was sent to England for some reason, I can a woman of that name, claiming to be born in Edinburgh, and I can find a record of her marriage to James Warren, but before that, I can find absolutely nothing. I have been researching her for many years, and have got no further. Can anyone give me any ideas of how to proceed from here? I have ground to a halt!. |

Nothing on the Irish census for 1901 only one Crobie listed at all so not a common name there , so I would follow the scottish lead. |

Have you thought of obtaining this birth certificate. Perhaps this could be the reason why she left her home? Could this be a daughter born before her marriage to Mr Warren? |

Thankyou so much, everyone, for your help. Mabel was born in 1888 and died in 1968. Her father's name on the marriage certificate was Albert Crobie, he does not appear to have been present at the wedding. Great Grandfather never met him. Thanks Reggie for the Irish census suggestion, I did do that, but no one named Crobie appears. Moody Blue, what an interesting suggestion! And highly possible! I will follow that one up. Thankyou, again, everyone. I am truly grateful for your interest and patience. |
