As far as I can find out, this lady just does not exist before she married my husbands grandfather. Her marriage certificate states her father was Albert Crobie, farmer. Cant find him either. She had a strong Irish accent all her life, and said she had been born in County Cork, but had been sent to England at the age of 16. She died Mabel Warren, in 1968. I have spent almost 2 years trying to find her, and have hit a brick wall. I have to give up after this, there is nowhere else to go! Any help you could offer would be very welcome. She married James Warren in 1911 |

Thankyou for trying, yes, I did find that one, assumed it was someone else, as she is described as being born in Edinborough. |

I begin to think there was some kind of reason for her to change her name. I got someone to look her up in Ireland as well, and no go, though I know Irish records are very scant |

Whats more intriguing is the other Mabel Crobie aged 8months, a visitor with the Collins family on the 1911. Infact her & MB Crobie are the only two. |

Sad circumstances prevented me from thanking you and going any further with this enigma. I see you find the whole thing as confusing as I do. I think she had committed some misdemeanour at home myself, and been sent here. I do not myself think that Mabel Crobie was her real name either. It seems she will have to stay a mystery! I wonder if she knew the Collins family, and pinched the baby's name? |

more likely that she had the baby outside marriage ... that could have been the reaosn for her being sent to England at the age of 16 |

Hi Sylvia, yes both trees belong to family members of mine, and until recent posts on this thread, the baby Mabel, born 1910, has never before emerged. We ask ourselves if she was perhaps Mabel Crobie Sr.s illegitimate child, which she had farmed out. If so, no surviving members of the family know anything about it, and some of them are in their late eighties. Mind you, you wouldnt advertise it at that time in history, would you? The only very sketchy history we have about her is that she was "sent" to this country by the courts when she was about 16, and that it had "something to do with the Guinness family" She became profoundly deaf in later life, but retained a strong irish accent till her death. She lived with her grand daughter for a year or two then died in 1968. All info I have came from the grand daughter. I can't seem to let her go, and the baby popping up from no where just makes it all more enigmatic! I have been researching her for 3 years, and got nowhere! Thanks so much for your help. So kind of you to bother. |

Just picked this thread up once again, I would send for the birth of Mabel born 1910 to see what it reveals, at least it will rule out or confirm your suspicions. |
