Hi
I am trying to find any information about the above. The only details I currently have are the following :
He married Margaret Henderson Duff on Aug 17 1830 He had 2 sons (John 1831 and Samuel 1833) and a daughter (Margaret 1836)
This information I have pulled from research done by someone tracing the tree of Margaret Duff so information regarding James was non-existant aside from the above. They did note that he possibly died in 1835 after drowning in a river but were not able to confirm it was this particular James.
I also cannot find any record of the marriage on Scotland's people.
I know he was definately deceased in 1858 when his son Samuel married as I have seen this wedding cert.
He was most likely born and also lived in the Dalrymple area of Ayrshire, Scotland.
What would be the next step to gaining any further info such as DOB etc ?
Any information would be gratefully received.

ScotlandsPeople shows one baptism for a James McMicken in Dailly, Ayrshire, in 1802. You will need some credits to get the full details.

Thanks Beverley !
I guess from the 1841 census it looks like he was already dead by then. I've got some credits so I'll go check out the baptism reference.

Hmm the one I found (above) for 1830 is in Dalrymple. I'm afraid I have no idea of the geography of Ayrshire !

I eventually found the 1830 marriage (EDIT on thread) however I think Andrea needs to confirm it is definately her family eg James..as I have also found another marriage for a James McMiken to a Jane Ralston ..pre the one for Margaret McKie however there must be more than 1 James in Dalry/Dailly as the James and Jane had a child in the same year as James and Margaret McKie..!!
The fact that Andrea says she has taken data from the Margaret Duff Tree could be taking her down the wrong path unless she has definative proof that this is her James....
Ayrshire isnt my forte either its only because I had some old data from the area I could find what I have posted...

Thanks all !
Eringobragh1916 -My James definately married a Margaret so the Jane is not correct. I know this as the census data Beverley listed above is correct for the children.
I suppose it's entirely possible Margaret Mackie could be the right one but although Dundonald appears to be in Ayrshire - generations of this family are all in Dalry / Dalrymple which is why I believe Margaret Duff is correct.
The Duff tree I took the information on also shows this Margaret as having the children (specifically Samuel) I am following.
I'm not really sure how else to narrow it down to be certain the info is correct ?
Beverley - I used the info you gave me for Scotland's People, however it's coming up with a James McNish - there is no James McMicken listed

Andrea....There is a death for a Margaret Mckie July13 1829 of Consumption in the Village of Dalry so its possible she was James 1st wife...(women often listed under maiden name)
I am away to watch the football but will have another look later tonight.....
We are definately looking at Dalry not Dailly...??

I double checked and it seems that the two generations below James all lived and died in Dalrymple. James is also believed to have died in the river in that area too.
For some reason, I thought Dalry and Dalrymple were in the same area but they aren't. Apologies - it is definately Dalrymple and not Dalry or Dailly (will edit my first post).
