I was wondering if anyone had access to scottish records? I'm looking for parents of Alexander Gardiner who was born around Edinburgh (Leith) in C1880

But, can you tell us more about him, like occupation, who he married? There are a lot of Alexander Gardiners around (and that's without spelling variants)

Have you found him on any census?

His marriage certificate will give you his father's name and occupation.

There are a couple of possible census entries so to absolutely sure you will need the marriage certificate which will also give you names of witnesses who may be relatives.

Any idea if he had any siblings?

Think your right on the father been james gardiner, remember someone saying that name...but no one could be sure as no mothers name was forthcoming, in regards to Alexanders army records i m assuming i could get his records from somewhere???

Have had a look on ancestry but no army records showing on there. You could try the National Archives for Army records but, unfortunately lots of WW1 records were destroyed in WW2 when the building they were kept in was bomded so they may have been destroyed.

Yeah i,m stuck on the wright family at the minute, been such a common name...they came original from Suffolk area, Uggeshill and mundford....got to James Wright 1792 who married Hannah,

There is a print out from c1764 with a Matthew Wright who married and a Sarah on the 17th September 1737.
