This lady was my great grand aunt. Born 1887 in Folkestone to Alfred Emile Augustus Noel and Mary Elizabeth Noel nee Boyd. Dora is living in Fulham with her parents in the 1901 Census. I cannot find anything on her since that date. Have searched marriages and deaths, have checked Free BMD but have drawn a blank. Perhaps I'm getting tired. Been researching most of the day. |

Hi, can't keep away. Thank you for the information so far. I found the birth for Dora Helen also and believe this may be Dora as the year is correct and Elham is in Kent, not sure if that covers Folkestone as well. Anyhow, no I haven't tried with the middle name alone. Will have a search just now. As polly pocket has found it is interesting that in 1911 it says that Alfred and Mary had had 9 children, five alive and four dead. I have Marie born 1885, Louise born 1892, Adele born 1894 and Alfred born 1900 all these lived beyond 1911. That makes four, haven't found another child as yet apart from Dora. |

Have searched under Helen Noel and found nothing. I now believe Dora's middle name was Helen as I had her as just Dora before but can only find one birth in 1887 and that is for Dora Helen Noel. How can someone just disappear? Have checked on FMP on the passenger lists but she doesn't appear there albeit I don't have subs for FMP but you can get to see names etc. |

Hi, thank you for your input. I have made contact with someone in France who was able to give me some information about Dora's father and grandfather. I am contacting them again at the weekend and will ask them if they can locate Dora in France. I will of course update this thread if there is any joy. |

Complete long shot, but was thinking of the American tradition in some parts of women using their maiden name as a middle name: |

Hi Marie, how interesting is this? Excuse my ignorance but would the De Hamm bit be a married name? Not sure about her date of birth. So far all I've found is March 1887. I will keep searching though. I did check the passenger list on FMP, not with subs though, and couldn't find anything. Although the Dora you have found is Dora N Noel. Forgive again as I get confused with names etc and am by no means an expert in research. I will try my hardest to see if I can get a proper birth date for her and keep you updated. Not sure where I'll find it but it may well be I have to send off for her birth cert but that won't be for a couple of weeks as I don't get paid until the end of the month. |

De Hamm would probably be a married name. I've searched under that name but can't find any other record. |

Hi again Marie, thank you again for your help. I've just had a scout around on that surname but nothing. Am off to bed soon, up early for work tomorrow. I will though keep looking and if nothing comes up on her date of birth I'll send off for her birth cert at the end of the month. I do love these mysteries. |
