I have now received additional information regarding my search for a Flo/Florence to John Wilson Marriage. It seems that maiden name was not Burton but Johnson. So will mark this as answered.

Thank you all.

Yes that is what I am going to do now - slow computer responses permitting. As to assuming he did not have a middle name, I now no longer assume anything - even what they put on certificates and census returns

Off to search for Burton/Willingale.....

Try looking for a marriage for Florence Willingale to Burton...........

If John had no second name on his marriage or his son's birth cert, one must assume he did NOT have one.

Mmmm probably right - it may need the marriage certificate, but was holding off on that as couldn't connect a marriage and a birth, but if she was married before then that could mean the Wilson/Burton marriage and the Wilson/Willingale birth.

Will put it on the list

Thank you

If John Wilson had a middle name (which I haven't confirmed) it would most likely be Charles - married as John Wilson and his name is shown as John Wilson on my grandfather's birth certificate.

I did see the Wilson/Willingale entry but not sure if there is a marriage?

Sorry if I seem slow in responding but when I press submit it is slow and I don''t want to press it more than once and waiting is frustrating me.

I have limited information on John Wilson/Florence and hoped that fresh eyes might dig something up

Youre going to have to buy the marriage certificate

John Wilson born c1885 - Florence I have no idea.

First wife was Elizabeth Owen, they married in 1907 - I have information on the first marriage, but am just trying to tie up a loose end (sideways) with a second marriage .

Is it safe to assume he had no middle name?

Yes that is what I understand - my great grandfather (John Wilson) married again after the death of his first wife (Flo became my grandfather's stepmother). Flo having been married before is also a possibility - which could be why I cannot find a birth to tie a John Wilson/Florence Somebody marriage to a Roy Wilson birth.

Will need to pursue that

Thanks

Couple of questions...

Who was Johns first wife and was Florence married before she married him?

Can you give us dates of birth/places/parents of John and Florence please

So, are you saying that you know your Grandfather John Wilson married someone called Flo/Florence after he was widowed?
If that is all you know, you might need the marriage cert to confirm it is him. It's possible that she had also been married before so you would need her maiden name to find Roy's birth.

Here is the marriage

Name: BURTON, Florence
Registration district: Hackney
County: London
Year of registration: 1928
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's last name: Wilson (EDIT: John Wilson)
Volume no: 1B Page no: 925

I know John Wilson's first wife died in April 1928. He married 'Flo' and they had a son named Roy, not aware of any other children. So could Florence Burton be the 'Flo' I am looking for as wife No 2 and making her my grandfather's stepmother?

Is this the most likely marriage to add to my list or have I missed something?

It is possible that I might be looking in the wrong area, and it isn't a Hackney marriage, but I am confident it would be a London one, and Hackney is very likely.

I have tried looking for Roy's birth but nothing obvious (could have been before the marriage or after) - was hoping to glean the MMN from a birth record and agree them with each other to be sure I have the correct records. Not been able to do that so far............

As always, opinions/suggestions gratefully received.

Thank you
