Well Done Erigobragh and Moody Blue,
You did well while I had to go to work.!

Just spotted something interesting....
There were TWO men called Daniel Maron Sager, and both born in PA just 4yrs apart. Surely they were cousins?
I am certain that you chose the correct WW11 docs

Daniel Maron Sagar b 11 Nov 1879 Buena Vista, PA
Above is the one you posted WW11 details for.
He also has a WW1 draft.
His next of Kin was: Sarah Sager, 625 Mifflin Street? WILKINSBURG, PA
(I presume this is his wife)
It looks suspiciously like the same address on the travel docs for James Clusker from 1916
His WW1 info shows that his left foot was missing! ( cut off .sic)

This one is a different man
Daniel Maron Sager b 30 Sep 1875
Has a WW1 draft and his mother was called KOZIAH Sagar. He died 21 Jul 1945

Excellent Anne!!

Now we need to find both of their deaths......is that right?

Moody Blue Report 9 Sep 2012 00:12

The 1901 census that has John Scott, George Scott ( boarders) and the Winning family at 4 Landale Terrace must be the correct one. John Scotts birthplace is
Crofthead, Linlithgowshire abt 1865

CROFTHEAD, town, 3J miles south-west of Whitburn, Linlithgowshire.
Crofthead Iron-Stone Pits. - parish of Whitburn, Linlithgowshire,

Moody Blue

Moody Blue Report 9 Sep 2012 00:24

In 1911 he is still lodging with the Winning family but this time he has his brother Walter with him (born America) John still born Whitburn, Linlithgowshire,, both miners. Address stil 4 Landale Terrace Auchtertool.

see post a little below:-

John Winning married Mary Scott ( John's sister) in America

GlasgowLass Report 9 Sep 2012 00:27

Yes we do need to find the deaths.

On the return journey in 1892 there are 3 more children who did not appear on the 1880 census, although at least one must be a grandchild.
His name is JOHN Scott age4
The party consisted of:
Walter Scott age51
Mrs Scott age 48
David Campbell age 21
Mrs Campbell age 19.... is this Agnes Scott????
Walter Scott age 20
Allan Scott age 17
George Scott age11
William Scott age 9
Alex Scott age 7
Robert Scott age 6
John Scott age 4.... he cannot be a child of Walter and Isabella must be a g/child

My reckoning is is that children Mary, John and Adam Scott are all missing from this ship, although they may be filed on another page.
Will go back and double check

Anne

I couldn't find the Scott family on a UK census of 1871 but now I see why.....

It looks as if Walter Snr already was living in PA in 1870.... with a Scottish born family called MARK ( Isabella's brother perhaps?)

1870 United States Federal Census about Walter Scott
Name: Walter Scott
Age in 1870: 23
Birth Year: abt 1847
Birthplace: Scotland
Home in 1870: Barclay, Bradford, Pennsylvania
Race: White
Gender: Male
Post Office: Barclay
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members:
Name Age
Thomas Mark 38
Jennett Mark 37
Isabella Mark 13
Alexander Mark 7
Thomas Mark 6
Adam Mark 3
Jennett Mark 11/12
George Scott 28
Walter Scott 23

Then, on 21 Oct 1870, his wife Isabella, children Mary, John, Adam and Agnes all arrived aboard the Australia from Glasgow.

I cannot find them returning to the UK after this but the must have been back by 1874 ( birth of Allan)
They left again in 1879 aboard the Devonia
This time Walter and Isabella travelled together with 7 children, which now included Allan, William and George.

James...Its good to know that the pieces of the jigsaw are fitting into place...but look how and where the family tree is extending ...!!

You did good Moody Blue and Anne...!!

I didnt consider the whole family going with John...(should have done)....not suprised they flitted from Lanark to West Lothian and PA....they were following the Coalfields

Eringobragh1916, Moody Blue, and Anne,

You have all done an excellent job and as I expand my family tree things do seem to be coming nicely together.

And yes they do seem to have followed the coalfields, and In America they also appear to have worked on the building of the railways,

Up until my grandfather on my mothers side was killed in a mining accident in Fife in1952 most of the family on both sides had associations with either coal mining or shale mining, if it were not for that accident I too could have ended up working in the mining industry.

My sincere appreciation to you all for all the information you have provided.

My Best Regards,

James Clusker
