I am trying to find any teacher records from about 1890's . Is it possible there is a record department that keeps them so far back.

Unlikely I would have thought.
However if you know the area you could look to see if there are school records for the time.
I've found lots of information on schools that my family attended from 1880 - 1914.
You need to ask at local records offices and it probably won't be about just teachers.
I found them fascinating reading though
Also don't forget newspapers as they often have information on school activities
Good Luck

Findmypast has 'Teachers' Registration Council Registers 1914-1948' and they say "the records cover teachers who started their careers from the 1870s onwards". I would assume that would mean teachers who were still teaching in 1914.

If you do not have access to FMP then post their name and I am sure someone will have a look for you.

Hi Chris
Thank you for posting
Hadn't noticed those on FMP. :-0 :-0
Not a lot of information on there though.

These records are also held by the Society of Genealogists so another place to look if you are a member.
Take care

Thanks it is going to be difficult all I know is he was a Professor of Languages and originated from France. He has written some books on French poems verbs etc which I have managed to see copies of in the British Library. I thought perhaps having done that he might have been traceable. The books even stated he worked sometimes for the Chamber of Commerce .Quite a lot of info but unable to progress.

As a Professor of Languages, one would have thought that any 'teaching' he did would have been in a University

However, it may be that he didn't actually teach at all, and spent his time writing, translating, etc
