Louisa Blunt Parentage Help (birth cert/census)

Lynn Report 23 Aug 2012 20:17

I am revisiting an old sticking point re: ancestor Louisa Blunt.

1) I can't track her birth cert which is complicated because her father does not hold the same surname. On her marriage cert in June 1897 to James Thomas Kay in Bolton, she is a spinster aged 21 years - (therefore APPROX BIRTH 1876). Her father is named as JAMES HARGREAVES (occupation collier) and not Blunt. Does this mean that her mother and father were not married?
As a married woman in the 1911/1901 census it says she is born in Bolton, Lancashire.

2) I am uncertain about where she is on the 1891/1881/ census before she married, and whilst i can find only one person called louisa blunt (right age but different birth location which says Australia)- I can't conclude if I am searching her or not. Is the information staring me in the face and I am just not making the connection

3) where is James Hargreaves, the father? (occupation collier) I hoped if i searched the address in the 1901 census at 29 folds lane , bolton, there might be a clue. I just found Albert Lomax the witness to the marriage

I will follow this initial questions with some research I located................

Walter PRICE married Mary BLUNT who probably brought children to the marriage.

The term in-laws was used as we we use STEP.

Hi Gwyn,
I didnt realise that the term inlaws could be used to mean step.
So do you think the louisa 1877 australia is the same as my louisa 1876 Bolton?

To summerise so i understand right. Are we saying......
Mary b1817, (maiden name?) married (Unknown blunt) and had 3 children called william, thomas and louisa (My louisa snr b1859)

louisa blunt snr 1859 had a child louisa blunt 1977ish....
but. confused how does james hargreaves father of louisa younger come into this when she doesnt have his surname?

Maybe this just isnt my family?

Hi Brummie jam
Louisa Blunt 1877 is residing at 29 fold lane , bolton at the time of marriage. I already did an address search for 1901 and no joy. Her father on the marriage cert defo says James Hargreaves. marriage witnesses are linked to her husbands side of the family not hers.

Must admit I am stumped. This is the family spotted by Lynn. It's interesting but difficult to see how it might fit in, not least of all because the parents' names are the wrong way round! . Sarah's name was Hargreaves, the marriage was 1872. I can't see them 1881.

Just a thought - what if Louisa was born a Hargreaves then her father died and her mother remarried a Blunt. Louisa was then known as Blunt and married in that name but her actual father's details were on the cert (just because it didn't say he was deceased didn't mean he was alive, depends how the question was asked).

Might be worth following up, even if to discount....

You are right MarieCeleste, but I am blowed if I can find a Louisa Hargreaves or marriage for a Hargreaves/Blunt to fit!!
Best I have come up with:

Births Mar 1871 (>99%)
HARGREAVES Louisa Bolton 8c 360

Sorry to be a party pooper over the Hargreaves connectionson census etc you found but it shows the fathers name as Thomas and on the marriage cert of louisa it says JAMES, so it doesnt match. :-(

Sorry, I keep thinking father Thomas not James! But at least Aussie Louisa is now out of the picture.

I appreciate everybodys help. You can see why I was getting muddled,

I can only think there is a misctranscription somewhere in the census
I agree the most plausable theory is Louisa was born a Hargreaves then her father died and her mother remarried a Blunt.

Looks like a dead end to me - sadly.
