I am trying to find where William was born in 1776. In the 1841 Census it shows that he was not born in Hillingdon, Middlesex as he marked the relevant box with a N. He died in 1842 and spent all his life as a soldier, latterly in the West Middlesex Militia. Any help at all would be wonderful as this is my brick wall! |

If the date of birth that you have is from the 1841 census remember that ages on that census for those over 15 was rounded down to the nearest 5 or 0. I presume that William gave his age as 65 meaning that he was 65-69 making him born 1772-1776. |

Thanks for all replies. I have all the info regarding his death etc. and his death cert gives his age as 66 too. I am very interested in the Canterbury christening of 16 July 1775 as have never found this one and it would only put his age a year out which is good for those days. Regards Anne |
