What I am starting to believe is that Abraham fabricated some of the info on his Marriage Certificate. His age and the fact that he was working as a Coal Miner are the only consistent facts.

While children did not necessarily work in the same field as their Father's, back in the 1860s-70s it was more common than not, and if Abraham's Father was a Ships Cook and his Grandfather a Cook, and were living around a Port City, why would he become a Coal Miner in his teenage years?

I took another look around the Census Records and Found an Abraham of the right age living with his parents and 6 Siblings in Nottinghamshire in 1881, He and his Father are both shown as COAL MINERS.

Would be most appreciative if someone could lookup either Thomas Cross b) 1836 Hugglesgate Leicestershire in the 1891 Census or Abraham Cross b) 1864 Hugglesgate, Leicestershire.

If Abraham shows up in 1891 than I will Know whether this is another dead end.
as he died in 1887.

Could he have made up his father's name when he married??

I wonder where the name "Bartholomew" came from?? It could be a christian name or a surname?

I have birth certificates for children with middle names of Booth, Moss and Barnett - could be a reference to the father who is not shown on the certificate?

If this is the right Father he would have been 45 when Abraham was born .and where is the 3-5y old Abraham and his Mother?
I spent years trying to Find 'Frank Cross' because that is the name my Grandfather gave me years ago. Last year I finally had the break through when I found his name was in fact Abraham Bartholomew Cross. But once again hit a Brick wall trying to find his birth. In 1881 I found age 15 he was Boarding and working as a Coal Miner in Preston, Lancs it said he was born in Liverpool so The above Census records for 1871 seem very probable.
But am once again thinking I could be barking up a wrong tree. I really don't know :-S

Abraham Cross has been a brick wall that I have been slogging at for the last six years. I got a major break through last year with finding the Parish record for his marriage to my Great Grandmother in 1886, which he said his Father's name was Abraham Cross, Deceased and showed his occupation as being a Sailor.

Christian Henry Cross certainly sounds hopeful as being the Father I am looking For.
