I have had a look at all the Hawnby baptisms between 1790 - 1810 and I cannot find anything for William Chapman. However if you are wanting to go back a generation I can give you his possible siblings. By going 'sideways' it might be possible to work out who his ancestors might be.
He may have been baptised elsewhere though.-jl

Anne Bradley baptised at Hawnby 9 March 1792 parents John Bradley and Anne Chapman

EDIT: Perhaps not, I think Hawes and Hawnby are about 50 miles apart from Google.

I believe Charles spent some time with his step Grandparents, and he eventually moved away first to Newcastle where he became a journalist. thenmoved to Barnard Castle Yorkshire, where he married.
Thank You Margaret

Terribly sorry Marie celeste, I have put down wrong dates Robert married Elizabeth 1842, Elizabeth Ann born 1843 Charles 1844

Margaret

Margaret Report 28 Jul 2012 19:21

Marie Celeste, Robert married about 1824 to Elizabeth Cornforth, they had two children Elizabeth Ann born 1824, and Charles (my Husbands Gt Grandfather).1844. Elizabeth died, and Robert married a Jane Haw, not sure when, but fairly quickly their first child Violetta born 1846.
Does this help at all. Margaret

Margaret, who did Robert marry? Where and when?

(It's handy to use as a reference point for us to work back from).

Margaret

Margaret Report 28 Jul 2012 19:04

Hi, I know Robert was my husbands 2xGt Grandfather,he was a shoe maker. I was trying to get further back to find his parents and Grandparents, difficult isn't it, I wanted to know Ann's (Williams wife) surname. Also I think William's father was another William, possibly married to a Mary. Thanks Margaret

MarieCeleste Report 28 Jul 2012 18:20

You're welcome Margaret.

What else do you know about Robert? Can then see if there are any other records to verify. Is he the line you are following?

Margaret

Margaret Report 28 Jul 2012 18:05

Marie Celeste, I think the Robert and Ann one is correct after all, no I don't have the 1851 census. Thanks again Margaret

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 28 Jul 2012 17:59

Margaret - they're both posted above.

Bear in mind that ages in the 1841 were usually rounded down so Robert could actually have been 20 to 25.

Do you have them for definite in the 1851?

Margaret

Margaret Report 28 Jul 2012 17:57

Dear Marie Celeste, On looking again dates dont quite match on Robert, could you telll me who else you found please. Margaret

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 28 Jul 2012 17:55

Children Robert, Barbara and William seem to be scattered across both families.
