Hi Mary,

That's intriguing, there could be a connection there.

Based on Roses unusual given name of Caporn, I was also looking at any Caporns in Coventry around that time, and had found William Pears Caporn (parents possibly William Caporn and Martha Pears?). However I hadn't got the street name. Upper Well Street and Well Street are close by each other.

Thanks for your posts on this thread :-)

Was thinking the same Dea,no children were born to that marriage!

.Still curious as to what became of Lillie.

Dan Report 28 Jul 2012 21:47

Very good point Dea - the marriage was in 1876, and Lillie was born in 1874/1875 according to her age on the 1881 and 1891 censuses. So she was born before the marriage.

Dan Report 28 Jul 2012 21:40

Hi maryb,

I don't have any further information about either Lillie or Harry unfortunately.

Dea

Dea Report 28 Jul 2012 21:32

OR - she made a correct statement re children born to 'that marriage' as one was born before the marriage and the other did not have the husband stated as the father on the birth cert. SO, in fact there were no children born to that 'couple' ???

Hi PricklyHolly,

Thanks very much for the info - I looked at the 1911 census record for Archibald Luck and I see what you mean.

I am pretty sure the 1911 census record is the same Sarah Jane Walker, as the age, profession, and birthplace all fit. As you say it is very odd - perhaps she just made a mistake on the census form?

Mary

Mary Report 28 Jul 2012 14:11

1901 with Sarah Jane is Harry Walker 1896 says son of Sarah Jane??

Do you know anything about him or what happened to Lillie?

Hi Dan

Just to say that a Widow or Widower was not supposed to fill in the details about children in the 1911 census.

If they did, it was crossed out by the enumerator.

Here is an example..........look up Archibald Luck born 1900...he is in Southampton.

Very odd that Sarah put..........."None".

Hi maryb,

"The 1911 census posted for Sarah Jane above says on original no children born to her."

It says "NONE", but this is crossed out with a red line

Hi Patchem,

That's a good question, I don't have the birth certificate for Lillie Walker, or any other information apart from the 1881 and 1891 censuses.

I found a birth for Lilian Walker but it turned out to be somebody different. I will keep searching for more information about Lillie - its tricky without knowning what Lillie is short for.

patchem Report 27 Jul 2012 21:27

The 1881 and 1891 censuses have Lillie Walker, born 1875. Interesting to see how she fits in, as born before that marriage, so how was she registered?

It states she is a widow on the 1901.

It is odd that Rose's Father is not on the birth certificate.

Hi PricklyHolly,

do you think I am reading too much into the fact that there is no father on Rose's birth certificate? Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that means that Rose is likely to be illegitimate?

Thanks

PricklyHolly

PricklyHolly Report 27 Jul 2012 14:08

It states Jane (Sarah) is married on the 1891....perhaps John was away at sea.

Thanks for all the replies :-)

PricklyHolly and PollyPoppet, yes those records are for Rose and her mother Sarah Jane, I also came across those records during my searches. John Walker is not mentioned on those records, so I am not sure what happened to him.

safc - thanks for the website link
