Thank you for looking Moira, it is his family and I have all those records, it's just in 1841 and 1851 that I can't find. |

I notice there's a Thomas Scott on the 1871 census b.1833 Westoning. He also disapears from the 1851 and 1841 censuses. (so far). Do you know if he is related to William? |

The full marriage certificate might say whether the father is alive or dead, and might have a family member as a witness. |

Do you know that the marriage is definitely them? Only the ages are a long way out. And William is consistent with his age on every census. |

I have the birth certificate of their daughter Mary Hannah, 1854 York, parents William Scott and Catharine Scott formerly Bradley. |

Oh yes, I can see her now on the 1841 and 1851. Definitely born around 1834. I wonder why the marriage says 27. Maybe it's in very poor condition and has been misread. |

Yes, I had assumed that the original must have been difficult to read and probably said 21 rather than 27 |

I've looked through all the 1841 census pages for Westoning. And they just don't seem to be living there anymore. There's only 16 pages to look through, and the Enumerator's Book for the discrict (District 14) says it's for the "entire parish of Westoning". |

It was very kind of you to trawl through Westoning for me - that was on my 'to do' list for today. |

If they are giving different fathers on their marriage information, perhaps they were both illegitimate and just invented the names? |
