The 1861 census on FreeCen gives the birthplace of John and Isabella as Chranston, Midlothian.

Parents are possibly Kenneth McKenzie and Jean Simpson who married in Tranent 1809

It seems that the Isabella Reid that AnnCardiff mentions above (mother- Marian Dudgeon) is a different Isabella,

There was another Isabella Reid Born 10/ aug/1823 to a James Reid and Christian Wood (married Cranston 14/11/1823) , it looks possible that this is the Isabella that fits into this line, this birth date also ties in with her age in later census returns.

Kenneth McKenzie's age seems to be inaccurate on the census. He died aged 89 years in 1875. He was the widow of Jane Simpson. His father is given as Kenneth McKenzie and mother Catherine McKenzie maiden surname Allan. The informant was his son John McKenzie who made his mark.
