This 1871 might be a step in the right direction:

DIVINE, Owen Head M 44 1827 Ireland < Hatter
DIVINE, Ann Wife F 44 1827 Ireland
DIVINE, Ellen Daughter F 12 1859 Yorkshire < Spinner
DIVINE, Hannah Daughter F 10 1861 Yorkshire

** The Yorkshire births were all in Leeds.

Not sure if the Ann and Ellen on this 1871 are the same as on the 1881. The birth years out but that's not unusual.

The Devine family in Leeds i can confirm are John born 1870 married Eliza Wrigglesworth children were Francis(1890) Arthur (1892) Owen(1895).

That is my brick wall I cant work back pre 1870 and close the loop to John F in 1790c

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 12 Jul 2012 19:18

Paul...There were a number of Devine Families (Ire) in Leeds early as 1841...Which family are we looking at...?

Paul

Paul Report 12 Jul 2012 18:29

The information I have which has been passed down over the years is that John Frances Devine was a Roman Catholic born to that family around 1790,believe he was baptised at St Michaels and St John's, but don't have any other details about parents or siblings.
I believe at some stage they migrated to Leeds which is where the 1870 birth ties in (that is confirmed by the way)as I have all descendants confirmed after that point.
Believe John Frances mother may have been a Mary Doyle (possibly)

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 12 Jul 2012 17:53

Paul....Its a fair leap from the 1790s to 1870 ....

I cannot find any Devine..(Clerical Headress Makers/similar) around Dublin City at the beginning of 1800s...plenty Bakers/Butchers...

How have you determined the approx. date and area....

What other details have you which may help....?
