I thought you might be MarieCeleste,
I have noticed the two of you seem to be a duo, I, and hope others, appreciate your valuable assistance.

A question or maybe two, why can't i find it as SELVES on GR record search?
Another question, i know my gran Alice 1888 didn't marry until after the 1911 census was taken... do you possibly have a solution or idea why i can't locate her in census records?

I love this site for it's simplicity, think i'll have to subscribe to Ancestry again to see if i can pull the record on there.

I shouldn't have to pay GR and Ancestry!

Patricia - we're ALL a team on here!!

I'm afraid I can't answer about finding the Selves record on here as I don't use this site for any records - I found that on FindMyPast.

So this is your gran's marriage:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Jun 1911
Anderton John Birmingham 6d 186
Gough Camilla Birmingham 6d 186
Jelves Alice Birmingham 6d 186 <<
Poole Alfred Birmingham 6d 186

and not this one:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1902
Bloomer Albert Birmingham 6d 283
Clemas Edward Reginald Birmingham 6d 283
Jelves Alice Birmingham 6d 283 <<<
Winters Alice Birmingham 6d 283

(I'd been going to track that 1902 marriage - you've saved me the bother)

MarieCeleste, i don't know how you do it finding records like that, It's the first marriage you listed, Alice to John Anderton in 1911. and that's got to be my gran in London, i never thought she ventured outside of Birmingham lol, just goes to show she did !! And i always thought she was a quiet one.

The other Alice to Albert Bloomer is another family member, i didn't have any problems finding their record.

When you report transcription errors are they always carried out and how long does it usually take?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 1 Jul 2012 20:21

I can't be 100% sure that the London record is yours, it's only a possible - you'd need to try tracking through other records to see if anything exists for an Alice actually called Jelfs.

FMP acknowledge error reports immediately and state they will amend within 28 days if they agree with your report.

Patricia Report 1 Jul 2012 20:34

Many thanks for all your help MarieCeleste i'm sure you do have the right Alice in London, i've come across that record before some months ago and thought.. possible?

It's the way they've wrote it down, as Jelfs, it's not always down to it being a transcription error. I'll try GR again in a month see if the spelling has been corrected.

Oce again, thanks for the help x
