Did Maria marry a Chapman? Do you have a birth certificate for one of the children? If she did marry a Chapman then presumably she is under her maiden name on the 1841 census?

this is my reply to your 9.11after connecting back onto this site the wonders of a slow broadband and this site

This is the story
This tree was written down by William Chapman 21/12/1858 Wrangle to 25/7/1936 Wrangle ,he listed (with photo's) everything forwards,but nothing backwards.
His first daughter he named Ethel Maria.
Going back through the Census ( cannot find him in the 1881).leads me to William Chapman born Wrangle with mother Maria, so we do not now if his mother was married or not .
personally I think if his parents were married he would have written it down as the rest of the tree is so meticulous.

Perhaps as with a lot of people in those days you did not speak about those sort of things .

I will be staying around but as you can see slow is the word of the day

Have rebooted the dam thing so hopefully will be a bit quicker

I have just looked at the birth reg's in my first post and realised they are twins.

So I have the father of the first 2 children just three more to go.
