Jill, as Anne has said, it isn't back to the drawing board. That is 99% certainly your Christina living with her paternal aunt in 1901 and listed with her aunt's surname of Lee. There was no offical adoption procedure at that time so Christina was probably known by her aunt's surname for convenience at the time but may have used her birth surname when she married.

Thanks for all your input. You were correct about Henry's wife Maggie. She died in 1892 of tuberculosis. She had previously married to someone Ross. Henry remarried in 1895 (Susan). All this is great but I think I have been barking up the wrong tree as to where my great aunt went after her parents deaths in 1899. I don't think it was the Christina with Henry. Ah well - back to the drawing board.

The child named Peter Dalrymple or Dryburgh Rae b 1878 and Maggie b 1883 have been included as children from this marriage, but think they are more likely to be Elizabeth's own children from a previous relationship

Searched only fror a child called Christina Jane ( no surname entered) b 1892 Edinburgh, and looked at any who were living in Markinch Fife!
I strongly suspect that this census is mistranscribed and the original says Christina Jane or Christina Taylor rather than TOM

That looks fairly hopeful Anne! The Eliza Lee is about the correct age to be the sister Elizabeth of John Rae and her birthplace is the same as his brother George's.

Can you post the 1891 census for her parents please? The names of her siblings would also help.

Parents names of Christina were John and Barbara Jane nee Taylor. I am wondering if she was assimilated into a Taylor family as I found a Christina Jane Taylor on the 1901 census aged 10 with the next child at 5 then 2 more younger ones.

Can you post the parents names and birth details and also the same for her brothers please
