El Alamein seems unlikely - apart from a brief deployment to cover the withdrawal from Cherburg right after Dunkirk, the 52nd div saw its heaviest fighting in its first real deployment to open the river to the port of Antwerp in the Scheldt battles in the fall of 1944. |

The only other place could have been Crete he was put in a commando unit at the beginning of the war and trained up north of Scotland. He was captured and made several escape attempts. His brother James was captured at Arnhem and when he was taken to pow camp his brother robert was standing at the gate. They hadn't seen each other since the start of the war. They were both in HLI TA based in Maryhill before the war.Robert helped make fake papers for pow's to escape. He started writing a book but it was passed to his son who kept it don't know where he is. |
