The only other place could have been Crete he was put in a commando unit at the beginning of the war and trained up north of Scotland.He was captured and made several escape attempts.His brother James was captured at Arnhem and when he was taken to pow camp his brother robert was standing at the gate. They hadn't seen each other since the start of the war.They were both in HLI TA based in Maryhill before the war.Robert helped make fake papers for pow's to escape.He started writing a book but it was passed to his son who kept it don't know where he is.

El Alamein seems unlikely - apart from a brief deployment to cover the withdrawal from Cherburg right after Dunkirk, the 52nd div saw its heaviest fighting in its first real deployment to open the river to the port of Antwerp in the Scheldt battles in the fall of 1944.

thank you I think Robert is the one at muhlberg and what we have passed down isthat James was in the pratroops and when james was captured 1944 robert was waiting at the gates of the camp so I don't think this person is my other uncle.Is .there any other way I can find out

I am trying to trace 2 uncles who both ended up in the same pow camp at different periods in ww2.I have tried pow records but I don't have much detail about James soldier no. I do know that they were in stalag 4b .Muhlbeerg. James was captured at Arnhem and Robert was captured I believe at El Alemain.Can any one help me. They were in the TA before the war their Regiment of HLI 52nd Lowland div,based in Glasgow.
